Vehicle safety features that can help to prevent crashes

Safety features in vehicles are a constantly evolving concern. There were times when seatbelts weren’t even required in cars. Now, vehicles are required to have them and several other safety features.

Many features that are common on newer cars can have a primary impact on safety when they’re used properly. They aren’t a substitute for safe driving, but they can assist drivers when it comes to reaching their destinations in one piece.

Assistive technology

Features, such as lane departure warning, blind spot detection and forward collision warning, alert the driver to safety hazards. Some of these even help the driver to take action to correct their driving. For example, a lane departure warning can be coupled with the vehicle gently guiding the driver back into the proper lane.

Other technology, such as backup cameras, help drivers to reverse safely. Since the driver has a better view of what’s behind them, they’re less likely to have a back-over incident. Some of these systems also have a sensor and alarms that alert the driver if there’s something or someone directly behind the vehicle.

Adaptive headlights

Adaptive headlights enable drivers to have optimal lighting when they’re driving without blinding other drivers. These headlights can pivot when the driver is going around curves, which also enhances safety.

Even a driver who’s operating their vehicle safely may be involved in a crash if other drivers aren’t being safe. Crash victims might need urgent medical attention, which can be costly. Seeking compensation from a negligent driver is possible via a personal injury lawsuit, but state law limits how long victims have to file these claims, so swift action is critical.
