Encourage students to enjoy safer homecomings

On Behalf of | Oct 1, 2025 | Car Accidents |

Soon it will be October in Minnesota, a time for the University of Minnesota and local high schools across the region to celebrate their homecomings with football games, pep rallies, parades and dances.

This is also a time of increased underage drinking and, unfortunately, driving after imbibing. But what if there were ways to keep students safer? Let’s explore a few alternatives to risking a homecoming accident by drinking and driving.

Parents still have power

Moms and dads, take heart, because your teens pay more attention to your words than you might think. Make sure that your teenager knows there is zero tolerance for driving while impaired. Rather, instruct them to call you first if they are ever in a situation where they or another driver is too intoxicated to climb behind the wheel.

Network with other parents

Don’t simply accept the plans relayed to you by your teen. Call the parent sponsoring the after-party for assurance that they will also be supervising the teens attending. If you have concerns about drinking and driving, go together with other parents and hire a professional limo driver to escort them to and from the night’s activities.

If an accident occurs

Sometimes, despite all the planning, accidents happen. If your child is injured in a wreck, you will need to be their medical and legal advocate to ensure that their interests are protected after the accident.

Learning more about the personal injury and liability laws of your state is prudent after a car wreck with injuries occurs.
